Evan Marmie, Associate Attorney at FLAG, has focused his professional career on working with families who are dealing with a variety of family law issues. Evan believes it is important to build strong relationships with his clients that are fostered through open communication, the ability to listen to his clients and fully understand their needs, educate his clients about all available options and be a zealous advocate for his clients’ positions should litigation be required.
Born and raised in rural Ohio, Evan grew up in a small, close-knit community before becoming the first person in his family to attend a four-year college. He attended Bethany College in Bethany, West Virginia where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology. Evan then pursued a doctoral degree in Social Psychology at Howard University before his passion for law drew him to attend law school at Penn State Dickinson Law School. While in law school, Evan participated in the school’s immigration law moot court team and was a member of the school’s addiction legal resource center. He also clerked for the Department of Justice, Criminal Division, gaining valuable experience in drafting motions and supporting litigators in the prosecution of organized crime.
Upon graduating law school, Evan was offered a highly coveted employment offer to serve as law clerk in Howard County Circuit Court for the Honorable Judge Timothy McCrone. Following his clerkship, Evan was offered a position as family law attorney for the YWCA of Annapolis and Anne Arundel County. This employment opportunity allowed Evan to advocate for clients in all aspects of family law cases. Evan gained extensive experience advocating at protective order hearings where Evan used his strong litigation skills to advocate for domestic violence victims. After almost three years at YWCA, Evan joined FLAG in the fall of 2023 to continue his growth in the area of family law. Evan is a strong proponent of low bono and pro bono service as he believes everyone deserves a strong voice in the legal process. He is also very involved in the representation of LGBTQ+ individuals and their families. He assists families with the formation of donor agreements, adoptions, and review of gestational carrier/surrogacy agreements. Evan was drawn to FLAG’s commitment to serve all clients in need, regardless of their financial means.
Evan is currently relocating to the DC area with his partner. In his spare time, Evan enjoys amateur photography, hiking, reading, and cooking.
